Transfer to Bayonne
Bayonne, a town in the Basque Country in south-west France. It is located at the confluence of the Nive and Adour rivers.
There are 2 historic districts known as Petit and Grand Bayonne.
The Greater Bayonne area is characterised by its narrow medieval streets. This is where you’ll find the Gothic cathedral of Notre-Dame (or Sainte-Marie), with its 13th-century cloister, and the Château-Vieux.
On the other side of the Nive is the Petit Bayonne district, where you can visit the Musée Basque et de l’Histoire de Bayonne, dedicated to the arts, crafts and traditions of the region.
The start of the tourist season is marked by the Bayonne Ham Fair, which has been held since 1462. An annual competition is held to choose the best Bayonne Ham. Here you can meet the local producers who produce pigs in all their forms. There’s a joyful atmosphere in the streets, in the spirit of the Bayonne festivities.
This year’s Ham Fair runs from Thursday 9 April to Sunday 12 April 2020.
Prestigious for its traditional festivals, Bayonne is world-famous for its festivities, which begin on the Wednesday before the first weekend in August and end on the following Sunday. Day and night, the Bayonne festivities will sweep you away with concerts, bullfights, the corso, cow races, the awakening of King Léon, funfairs, bandas and much more… You’ll find plenty to do with your family, your friends and even your children.
